Safe Car Check vs HPI Check

HPI is the original brand name in UK vehicle history (the term "HPI check" is a registered trademark). Their Basic Check is £9.99, the same as ours, but it doesn't include outstanding finance, the AI risk summary, or a vehicle valuation. To get finance you need their Full HPI Check at £19.99.

For £9.99 £4.99 we include finance as standard plus the AI summary, the two-pass valuation, a PDF by email and our loyalty discount. None of which HPI offers at any price point.

Safe Car Check vs AutoTrader Vehicle Check

AutoTrader's vehicle check is £5.95, the cheapest big-brand price in the table. It includes the headline checks (stolen, finance, write-off, mileage) using the same official UK data we use.

What you don't get from AutoTrader: the AI risk summary, the advanced two-pass valuation (they sell valuations as a separate product), a downloadable PDF by email, or any loyalty perk. For £9.99 £4.99 we include all of those.

Safe Car Check vs MyCarCheck

MyCarCheck advertises a £4.99 Basic tier that looks competitive on price, but it is genuinely a basic-only check. On their own pricing page the £4.99 tier explicitly does NOT include the outstanding finance lookup. For finance you have to step up to their Comprehensive Check at £8.49.

Every Safe Car Check report includes outstanding finance as standard. We also offer a true AI risk summary rather than MyCarCheck's brief "AI insights" line, and we deliver a downloadable PDF report by email rather than a web view.

Safe Car Check vs CarVertical

CarVertical's genuine USP is European import history. If you're buying a car registered abroad before coming to the UK, their cross-border damage and registration data is the best in the market.

But CarVertical charges around £31.99 for a single report and doesn't advertise outstanding finance for UK-registered cars. For a normal UK purchase that's three times our price for less of what you actually need. We pull from the same DVLA, DVSA, PNC and MIAFTR data every UK provider uses, add the AI summary and two-pass valuation, and email you a PDF for £9.99 £4.99.

Safe Car Check vs Total Car Check, Vcheck and the ultra-cheap tier

Total Car Check, Vcheck and Instant Car Check compete on headline price (£1.60 to £3.99 entry tiers). They're a fine option if you only want a basic identity confirmation and you're not going to read the data carefully.

For £9.99 £4.99 we include the same core checks plus the things ultra-cheap providers don't offer at any price: a written AI risk verdict you can actually trust, a reconciled valuation against live market data, a PDF report by email, a loyalty discount and a free report for an honest review.

Is Safe Car Check cheaper than HPI Check?

Yes. HPI's Basic Check is £9.99 and their Full Check is £19.99. Safe Car Check is £9.99 (currently £4.99 during our half-price promotion) and already includes the stolen, finance, write-off, mileage and full MOT history checks that HPI charges £19.99 for, plus a true AI risk summary that HPI doesn't offer.

Do you use the same data as HPI and the AA?

The official UK vehicle data is the same across providers. We pull from DVLA, the DVSA MOT History API, PNC stolen records, MIAFTR insurance write-off records and finance lender databases. The big brands use the same sources, they just charge more for them.

What's actually in MyCarCheck's £4.99 tier?

Not the outstanding finance check. MyCarCheck's £4.99 Basic tier covers write-off, stolen and export checks plus specs and recorded history, but it explicitly does NOT include the outstanding finance lookup. For finance you need their £8.49 Comprehensive Check. Every Safe Car Check report at £9.99 (£4.99 during the promo) includes finance as standard.

Do any other UK car check providers include an AI risk summary?

None of HPI, AutoTrader, AA, RAC, CarVertical, Total Car Check, CarVeto, Vcheck or Motorscan advertise an AI-written risk summary on their product pages. MyCarCheck markets brief "AI insights" but it isn't a full risk verdict. Our reports include a plain-english AI analysis covering risk rating, concerns, positives and a clear recommendation.

Is the PDF report really included, and how do I get it?

Yes. Every Safe Car Check comes as a downloadable A4 PDF emailed straight to you and available from your account for 30 days. Most competitors deliver a web view or print-friendly HTML by default; we lead with the PDF because it's what you'll actually want when you're standing on a forecourt.

Do you have a loyalty discount?

Yes. Once you've bought 3 reports, every report after that is automatically half price and comes with a free valuation, for as long as you keep using us. Just sign in with the same email. None of the competitors in our comparison offer an earned loyalty rebate of this kind.
